This horseback riding tour through Colca Canyon begins from the Condor Cross at 3700 meters of altitude. On this route you will visit the lookout point of Tapay, the lookout point of San Miguel, then you will arrive in the town of Cabanaconde, 3300 meters of altitude and then finally you will arrive at the lookout point of Achachihua.
The lookout point of Tapay is a lookout from where you can observe the town of Tapay, which is situated of the other side of the canyon (the right-hand side) and from here you are able to see the condors.
The lookout point of Achachihua is one of the best in the Colca Canyon. You will walk for 15 minutes to reach the town of Cabanaconde, from this natural lookout point you can observe the depth of Colca Canyon, the Andes mountain range, the Colca Canyon Oasis (Sangalle), the towns inside the canon, the Huaruro waterfall and the path of the Incas.
The terraces are of the Pre- Incas of Cabanaconde, they constructed an example of how the ancient Peruvians managed to adapt the geography to the agriculture.
- You will cross some Pre-Incan terraces.
- The duration of the horseback riding is 3 to 4 hours.
- The type of trail is easy to moderate.
- The geography is not complicated most of the trail it is flat with a small descent.
- The route is included with a horse riding instructor.
This horseback riding tour can be included after a conventional 2 day tour of Colca Canon.
As in the conventional tour of the Colca Canyon Valley, on the second day you will arrive at the Condor Cross. Here you have the option to add an extra night at Cabanaconde. You can also combine the 3 day trekking tour with the horseback riding tour.
