  choquequirao trek to machu picchu: 08 days/07 nights    
day 01: from cusco to cachora and santa rosa 

we will collect you from your hotel and we will travel for 3 hours until the village of cachora (2800 meters) it is here where we will find our local muleteer, from this village we will begin our choquequirao trek. on the first part of the trek we will climb up the steps (high steps) of capuliyoc, from here we can appreciate the great apurímac canyon, then we will descend up to the apurímac river where we will have lunch in a place called rosalina beach (1550 m.). in the evening we will make our ascent up our base camp santa rosa duration of 3 hours.

time of trek: approximately 06 hours.

day 02: from santa rosa to choquequirao and raqaypata

after our breakfast we will head towards choquequirao, where we will arrive approximately mid-day. here we will visit the complex archaeological remains of choquequirao which is considered to be as important as machupicchu. it is important to know that in the evening it might see condors.

this day we will spend the night in raqaypata located at the head of the complex.

trekking time: approximately 05 hours.

day 03: from choquequirao to maizal.

after our breakfast we will descend from raqaypata our lunch spot, where we will be entering a warm intense climate; in the evening we will begin our ascent towards maizal where we will see and appreciate inhabitants of the area, here we will spend the night in our tents.

trekking time: approximately 08 hours

day 04: from maizal to yanama.

we will begin very early after our breakfast (7.00am) because of the climate and the fifth day they are in general cold, rainy and with a lot of moisture; especially in yanama, the place where we will arrive after climbing. we will spend the night in tents.

trekking time: approximately 9 hours.

day 05: from yanama to collpapampa.

in the morning after our breakfast we will continue with our ascent to reach the “paso yanama” then we will descend to the santa teresa valley after we arrive at the santa teresa river; we continue with our trek for along the river up till we reach totora where we will have lunch. then in a more agreeable climate we will descend to collpapampa, where we will have dinner and spend the night in tents

trekking time: approximately 08 hours.

day 06: from collpapampa to patallacta until santa teresa.

we will begin our trek at 7.00 am approximately we will descend again closet o the santa teresa river until we arrive at the beach town, where we will have our lunch and finally we will spend the rest of the day in the santa teresa village and we will also spend the night.

trekking time: approximately 07 hours.

day 07: from santa teresa to the hydro electrics and aguas calientes.

after breakfast we will descend and cross the suspend bridge, then 40 minutes trek we will have an adventure crossing by the oroya (iron system bridge) on the urubamba river and we will continue up to the hydro electrics. finally, two hours of trekking via the train tracks and we will arrive at aguas calientes where we will have lunch and spend the night.

trekking time: approximately 05 hours

day 08: from aguas calientes to machupicchu and cusco.

on this day we will leave much earlier for the journey to machupicchu and to arrive at machupicchu and fine the best lockout; from here there is a strategic place to observe the first beams of sun on this citadel; then we will do the complete visit with our guide. also you will have free time to possibility of climb huayna picchu or to visit the incan bridge and/or the temple of the moon. finally we will take the bus to return to aguas calientes and then later we will take the train to cusco.

  • is recommendable have yellow fiber vaccination (malaria)
  • it is also important to be well acclimatized to the altitude for that try to spend 2 nights in cusco (3400m) prior to do the trek.
horses hire
