Climbing snow-capped coropuna volcano

3 - 4 days / 2 - 3 nights

 

Coropuna Volcano is considered the highest volcano in Peru.

COROPUNA 6425 meters, (20922 ft) this is one of the few glaciers and also volcanoes together that is found in the region of Arequipa. We recommend climbing this mountain in 3-4 days; our car will take us to 4800 meters (15748.031 ft). The Coropuna Volcano is considered the highest volcano in Peru.
The snow-capped Coropuna Volcano has an enormous water reservation stored in enormous blocks of ice and snow due to its high altitude; it is considered to be a glacier. And in the period of the Incas it was considered the most sacred mountain in the south of Peru.

CLIMBING TOUR COROPUNA MOUNTAIN PROGRAM First option by private car:
day 1

We will travel in the morning from the City of Arequipa in the direction of Cotahuasi Canyon duration of 8 hours, until we arrive at Pallarcocha Lagoon located at 4800. (15748.031 ft) we will camp at the side of the lagoon.

The Pallarcocha lagoon offers us a surprising sight as it is situated at the foot of the snow-capped Coropuna Volcano. Here you have the change to appreciate the nature, birds and take photos.

day 2

After breakfast we will begin our ascent until 5200 meters of altitude (17060.367 ft).

It is important to know that this day we will do some small walks around our camp to get more acclimatized to the height, to prepare ourselves to attack the summit the following day.

day 3

After breakfast we will begin our ascent at 3 in the morning in order to reach the summit in 6 hours.
After we arrive at the summit of the snow-capped Coropuna Volcano 6425 meters, we will descent to the Pallarcocha Lagoon in 3 hours.
Our journey to return to the City of Arequipa will take 8 hours.

 
CLIMBING TOUR COROPUNA MOUNTAIN PROGRAM Second option by local bus:
day 1

We will leave from the City of Arequipa at 15.00 and we will travel by local bus and pass the villages of Aplao and Chuquibamba and we will leave the bus at an altitude of the Pallarcocha Lagoon, and trek towards the Pallarcocha Lagoon. Where we will camp at 4200 meters, we will arrive here at approximately 23:00.

day 2

We will begin our ascent of the snow-capped Coropuna Volcano at 8.00 until we reach the first base camp situated at 5200 m.h.s.l, this day we will walk approximately 4 hours.

day 3

After breakfast, we will leave early at 2.00 am and we will walk until the summit a duration of 5 hours, until we arrive at 6425 meters of altitude (the summit) the same day we will make our descent a duration of 3 hours to the first base camp at 4200 meters of altitude.

day 4

We will return to the City of Arequipa by local bus.

day 5

We will arrive in the City of Arequipa at 3 am and you will be transferred to your hotel.

The climbing tour towards the volcanoes in the region of Arequipa are organized bearing in mind of quality standards, and safety.

Remember that to be able to do an ascent at altitude a sufficient acclimatization is needed. In all of our programs of ascent up the volcanoes and snow-capped mountains in Arequipa, we assume that, our clients have given themselves sufficient time to acclimatize before the trek. Nevertheless if you are not acclimated to the altitude, you must consult with us about the ascents for every snow-capped mountain or volcano trek.

Our goal is not only to sell climbing tours, our goal is that our clients arrive at the summit of the volcanoes and snow capped peaks on the climbing tours. In order to do this it is necessary at the time of the consultation for the climbing tour, that you tell us if you are acclimatized to the altitude.

If already you are acclimatized we can do the ascent and follow the program and you can. And if not, it does not matter, we can add one or two more days to the same program. If you do not have a lot of experience we recommend to you to do an ascent in private service and the guide will be able to take you up to the summit slowly to the suit your rhythm.

The programs on our website about ascent are only programs, as these can be adapted to the physical experience and acclimatization of each of our clients.

Our guides are trained and qualified in the High Mountain School in the region of Huaraz.

  • The Rainy Season
    The rainy season in the region of Arequipa and in the Andes from between January until March, nevertheless in the rainy season there are many sunny days and it is possible to climb.
  • When climbing is advisable?
    It is the dry season in the Andes and in Arequipa, between the first days of March until December; however in the rainy season there are some days that it is possible to climb.
  •  The Meal which are included:
    If you are vegetarian or you have an allergy please notify us in advance in order to make the respective arrangements.
  • IMPORTANT: When you reserve this tour, the passenger must have travel insurance. It is an obligation to the passenger to notify us of any health problems, mental or physical at this time.
  • Observations:
    The porters we include in the program only carry the food and cooking equipment. If you do not wish to carry your equipment and personal things you can hire a porter of which the price is $40 (USD) per day.
  • Before the tour:
    One day before the ascent we will have a meeting in order for you to meet your mountain guide and to go through the pre – trip information; this meeting can be in your hotel or in our tour agency
