| PRESENTATION |
This beautiful trek begins in Colca Valley near Cabanaconde. We’ll visit part of Colca Canyon and the Chila mountain range, visiting one of the most interesting attractions of the region of Arequipa, the Valley of the Volcanoes. The scenery is very special, it is possible to see the beautiful mountain range of Chila, Colca Canyon and the snow-capped mountains, the colorful country of Andagua and the black lava rock, as well as a vale where for 60 km there sprawl more than fifty small volcanic cones that give this region a very special geography. Finishing the trip, we pass the pictures Valley of Majes before returning to Arequipa. |
| LOCATION |
The route of this trek is located in the province of Castilla and Caylloma, in the region of Arequipa. The most important towns are Cabanaconde and Chocco, in the area of Colca and Andagua near the Valley of the Volcanoes. |
| DIFFICULTY |
The only problem is the height, as we will be reaching passes of 5300 meters above sea level. Tourists must be acclimated. |

| The best season is from April to November. |
| First Day: |
Arequipa.- At around 8 am we leave for Colca Valley.
After a two hour trip we arrive at “Pampas Cañahuas,” where we will be able to see “vicuñas,” which are non-domesticated animals from the camel family that live freely in Aguada Blanca y Salinas National Reserve.
In the afternoon, thermal baths in La Calera. We’ll spend the night at the Colca Inn or similar hotel. Chivay is located at 3600 meters (5 hours). |
| Second Day: |
Chivay .-Very early in the morning we’ll travel to the Cross of the Condor (3,800 m/2 hours), before moving to the trailhead, descending to Llanca village (3090 m/30 minutes). Then we start the trek to the deepest part of the Canyon, close to the Colca river (2000 m ). Afterward we’ll walk up to the town of Choco (2473 m/5 hours) in the Province of Castile. Camp with tents in a suitable place. |
| Third Day: |
Choco .- This day we will visit the village of Choco, rising for a short ways to the annex of Miña (3550 m/4 hours), where we’ll make camp with tents in a suitable place. |
| Fourth Day: |
Miña .- Early in the morning we begin the ascent up to the spurs of the Chila mountain range, coming next to El Paso (4600 m/5 hours) where we make camp. |
| Fifth Day: |
Paso-Chachas-Andagua-Arequipa.- In the morning we rise to the highest point of the tour (5300 m./3 hours), at the foot of mountains Casiri and Cerani, which in certain times of the year are covered in snow. Then we will go down to the Chachas village (3050 m/3 hours), in the Valley of the Volcanoes, where we’ll cross a series of dark lava formations which still have their original form, as yet unchanged by erosion. We’ll see the cones of many small volcanoes with craters and also observe the agriculture of this beautiful valley. Spend the night with basic accommodations in the Andagua village.
It should be added that on this day there will be 11 hours of bus travel to Arequipa .If the passenger wishes we can spend the night in this town. |
